Knights beat Spartans on final day of Central Wyoming Invite
Riverton, Wyo. – North Platte Community College volleyball closed out the Central Wyoming Invite with a four-set win over Colorado Northwestern Community College (23-25, 25-8, 25-20, 25-16) on Saturday.
The Knights were dominant from the service line, tallying 15 aces against the Spartans. Nya Lual led the offensive with 12 kills and added two blocks. Zoe Maher and Khloee Wright anchored the back row, each recording 12 digs.
"We struggled in the first set, but I thought we responded well in the second," said head coach Alexa McCall. "We worked on getting our middles more involved in transition, and I think that really made a difference"
The Spartans used an 8-1 run to create separation in the opening set. Despite a late surge from North Platte that cut the deficit to one, the Spartans held on to take a 1-0 lead.
North Platte dominated in the second set while holding the Spartans to just eight points to even the match at one set apiece.
A kill from Ella Rotherham sparked a 7-0 run in set three, providing the Knights the cushion they needed to take a 2-1 lead.
That momentum carried into the fourth set, where North Platte jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back, closing out the match in four sets.
North Platte (5-9) will return to the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium on Tuesday to take on Northeastern Junior College at 6 p.m.
