Leicht’s grand slam not enough as North Platte falls in doubleheader

Beatrice, Neb. - The North Platte Community College softball team came up short in both games of a doubleheader against Southeast Community College on Sunday.

Southeast came out strong, scoring five runs in the first inning and adding one in the second and five in the third to build an 11-0 lead.

North Platte responded in the fourth inning when Julia Leicht hit a grand slam to spark an eight-run inning for the Knights.

Southeast added two runs in the fifth, but North Platte battled back to pull within one at 13-12 by the end of the sixth. Southeast added another run to secure the win.

Leicht also started in the circle for the Knights, allowing six hits and 11 runs (five earned) over three innings while striking out two and walking two.

Southeast struck first with a run in the opening inning, but North Platte responded to even the score at 1-1.

The Bobcats broke the game open in the third inning, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 6-1 lead. North Platte added a run in the fourth, but Southeast maintained control, adding four more runs to seal the victory.

Areliana Bravo got the start in the circle for North Platte, pitching three innings. She allowed seven hits and six runs (five earned) while recording one strikeout.

North Platte (2-26) returns home on Saturday against Otero College, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
