Sterling, Colo. - The North Platte Community College softball team came up short in both games of a Friday doubleheader against Northeastern Junior College.
Northeastern 19 North Platte 4
Northeastern came out swinging, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning and adding four more in the second. A six-run third inning gave the Plainswomen a commanding 15-0 lead.
Brooklyn Deibert put the Knights on the board with a solo home run to center field in the top of the fourth. Northeastern responded with four more runs in the inning.
North Platte showed some life in the fifth, plating three runs, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Areliana Bravo started in the circle for the Knights, pitching 2.2 innings. She allowed eight hits and 15 runs (four earned) while striking out two and walking one.

North Platte wasted no time getting on the board, as Deibert doubled in the first inning to bring home Heaven Hutchison for a 1-0 lead. Northeastern answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, and both teams traded runs in the second to make it 2-2.
North Platte regained a 4-2 lead in the third inning, but Northeastern closed the game on a 10-0 run to secure the victory.
Danica Unger got the start in the circle, pitching five innings. She gave up seven hits and 12 runs (five earned) while issuing seven walks.
North Platte (2-18) returns home Sunday to continue Region 9 play against Northeastern Junior College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
