Smotzer leads Knights at West District Championship
Loveland, Colo. – The North Platte Community College men's golf team finished seventh with a three-round total of 998 (+134) at the West District Championship, held at The Olde Course in Loveland, Colo.
Layne Smotzer set the pace for the Knights with an impressive opening round of 72, then followed with rounds of 77 and 75 on Friday to finish 10th in the individual standings. His three-round total of 224 (+8) places him in contention for an at-large bid to the NJCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan.
Simon Capocci finished tied for 22nd with rounds of 84, 80 and 78, while Darin Neben finished 34th in the field with a three-round total of 264 (+48).
Chandler Frahm rounded out the lineup, finishing 37th overall with a tournament score of 268 (+52) after rounds of 92, 87, and 89.
